Meet Daniel New and Brandon McBay ( The “McNew’s”):
How a Holiday Party Became the Royal ALZ Gala…and Beyond…
What began as an intimate Christmas gathering among friends and family turned into a mission with a far-reaching impact.
- 2019–2021 | Annual holiday party hosted at our home—food, laughter, and community.
- Early 2022 | We lost beloved grandparents to Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia, and watched close friends navigate the same heartbreak.
- Late 2022 | Determined to act, we reimagined the party as the Royal ALZ Gala—100 guests packed our living room and raised $15,000 for the Alzheimer’s Association.
- 2023 | The Gala moved to a formal venue, welcomed 130 attendees, and surpassed $50,000 in donations. Brandon joined—and now leads—the Board of Directors for the Alzheimer’s Association Alabama Chapter, deepening our commitment to the cause.
- 2024 | Our greatest expectations were exceeded, as our 7 year goal was accomplished at year 3! Our Gala was moved to the Grand Ballroom at Downtown Birmingham’s prestigious The Club. We welcomed over 130 attendees and raised over $115,000!
- 2025 | HELP US reach our largest goal yet – $200,000 – raised to benefit the Alzheimer’s Association of Alabama. Join us again this year on Friday, November 7, 2025, at The Club as we surpass all expectations for a benefit that impacts so many lives across the world!
Growth: From One Gala to a Broader Mission
The success of the Royal ALZ Gala showed us the power of turning celebration into action. Inspired, we formalized The McNew Project as a philanthropic engine that can serve any community in need. While Alzheimer’s research and caregiver support remain cornerstones, our vision now stretches to emergency relief, educational grants, and future initiatives that uplift all who face hardship.
